MESSAGE .................NHW RU Theft of manhole covers from Brinklow, Stretton under Fosse and Ryton INC 259 of 9 March

We would like your help to catch the offenders who are repeatedly stealing manhole covers from rural roads in your area.

On Monday 9 March 55 manhole covered were discovered to be missing from B445 between Coventry and Coombe Abbey, Brinklow, from Wolson lane in Ryton and from the Fosse Way between Stretton under Fosse and Watling Street, Rugby.

The theft of these covers is very dangerous to pedestrians and to cyclists and an uncovered drain hole is a serious accident waiting to happen. Replacing the covers in also a very expensive exercise and ultimately will be paid for by local council tax payers.

It is believed that the thieves are dressed in flourescent jackets and work wear and look like council or genuine road workers. Please could we ask you to make a note of the registration and location of anyone you see working on the roads in your area and to contact police in the Warwickshire Control Room on 01926 415000 with the information.

Please say that you are responding to a Watch Message. We will then send officers out to the site to investigate the incident and will check out the registration number of the vehicle to see if the workers are genuine.
